Many New York residents have had the misfortune of being injured in motor vehicle collisions as the new year gets underway. Such car accidents have occurred for various reasons, many including poor road conditions and/or reckless drivers. One recent incident is said to have involved multiple vehicles and possibly some pedestrians.
One would think a church parking lot a relatively safe place to be. On a recent morning, just after 9 a.m., however, this was not the case at a church in Syracuse. A sergeant working for the police department that responded to the scene said several people were hospitalized following the collision.
This particular parking lot reportedly has two separate entrances. Authorities say there is also a sign posting a speed limit of 5 miles per hour. Officials noted two other signs in the area that caution motorists that children are at play and inform them the parking lot is not to be used as a thoroughfare.
Among those who were injured were a local firefighter and his child. It has not been clarified whether the firefighter and his child were on foot or in a vehicle at the time they were injured. When exact details of car accidents remain unknown, authorities typically launch extensive investigations. In New York and all other states, if the negligence of a motorist is believed to have caused injury to another, a recovering victim may pursue monetary judgment against the negligent party in a civil court. Compensation received from successfully litigated claims has often been used to cover medical bills and other expenses associated with such incidents.
