Many dentists in New York specialize in caring for children’s teeth. Where very young children are concerned, it is understandable that a parent would want to remain in the room while any type of examination or procedure is taking place. While most dentists adhere to the utmost level of accepted safety standards in their professions, every once in a while, a questionable situation arises that may be grounds for a medical malpractice lawsuit.
In a town along the southern West Coast, various incidents that appear to be connected to the same dental office have left parents outraged. Reportedly, nearly 60 children suffered serious infections in their mouths and/or necks after having dental procedures done at the office. Some of the parents say the invasive procedures were done without their permission or knowledge.
One child in particular, who is age six and autistic, allegedly underwent two baby root canals without any anesthesia. Allegations against the dentist include reports that this boy was strapped into a straight-jacket type device to keep him still during the operations. An attorney acting on behalf of the child’s family said they are shocked at the information they have learned thus far.
Medical malpractice is a serious issue that is problematic in some New York facilities, as well as others throughout the nation. Incidents involving injured children are especially troubling. Parents often feel helpless watching their children suffer; however, there are support networks available to guide them through the process of seeking monetary accountability against any and all parties deemed responsible for their children’s injuries.
