Mr. Long was a Partner in the firm from 1961 to 2001, and is currently Of Counsel. He headed the firm's Litigation Department for 26 years and has concentrated for over 54 years in civil litigation at the trial level, primarily in State Supreme Court, Federal Court, and at the Appellate level in the Appellate Division, Third Department and the Court of Appeals. Mr. Long’s trial experience has encompassed many areas of civil law including products liability, environmental law, arbitration, commercial law, Workers’ Compensation, labor law, libel and personal injury litigation including medical malpractice and automobile liability.  He has represented numerous companies, including The Campbell Soup Company, GAF Corporation, NYSEG, The Miami Herald, Taco Bell, Dannon Yogurt, Anheuser Busch and R. J. Reynolds Company. He served as a Master Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association for over 20 years.

Mr. Long is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and an active member of the Broome County (President 1979-1980), New York State, and American Bar Associations. He is a member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel.  Mr. Long has served as Chair of the Trial Lawyers Section of the New York State Bar Association; is former Treasurer of the Senior Lawyers Section; Chair of the Special Committee to review the United Court System's Comprehensive Civil Justice Program; Chairs New York's Commission on Uniform State Laws; and, for over 34 years, has been a member of the Advisory Committee on Civil Practice of the Office of Court Administration.  Mr. Long is a Life Commissioner of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws.  He has written and lectured extensively on the subject of litigation, and served for 20 years as a Trustee of Syracuse University and a member of the Board of Visitors of the Syracuse University Law School. Mr. Long is a co-author of Preparing For and Trying the Civil Lawsuit, first and second editions, published by the New York State Bar Association, and author of several articles in the New York State Bar Journal. Mr. Long serves as Chair of the Sixth Judicial District, Independent Judicial Election Qualification Commission and is a member of the New York State Continuing Legal Education Committee.
