Biography
Michael P. DeGroat became of counsel to Coughlin & Gerhart, LLP on January 1, 2014, after having spent 35 years practicing law in Delaware County, New York. From 1978 to 1980 Mike served as law assistant to Delaware County Judge Richard H. Farley. In 1980, he joined the firm of Eaton, Griffith and Mugglin. Mike has maintained a general practice of law in Walton since that time, concentrating in the areas of real estate, estate planning, estate administration, and banking law. He has also been the town attorney for the Town of Colchester in Delaware County since 1988. Mike has been affiliated with many Delaware County entities. He was a director of Delaware Valley Hospital, Inc. and has been director of The National Bank of Delaware County. He also served as a member of the Independent Judicial Election Qualification Commission. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the Delaware County and Broome County Bar Associations.
Mike and his wife Jean reside in Walton, New York. Mike is a parishioner and a lector at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church. He is a veteran of the United States Army.
