Professional experience
Mr. Gorgos joined Coughlin & Gerhart, L.L.P. in 1980 and has served as its Managing Partner since 2004. Mr. Gorgos' practice is concentrated in the area of commercial law, municipal and education law, public sector labor law, and creditor bankruptcy matters. He is the primary attorney for a number of municipalities and school districts in the Southern Tier. He has served as a mediator for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of New York and as an arbitrator for the Sixth Judicial District of New York. He is a frequent lecturer on ethical standards for the Broome County Bar Association Continuing Legal Education Program.
Other
Mr. Gorgos is the past President of the Broome County Bar Association and a past chair of the New York Conference of Bar Leaders. He has served as a Delegate to the New York Bar House of Delegates, representing the Broome County Bar Association, and now is a member of the House as the representative of the Sixth Judicial District. He is a member of the New York State Bar Nominating Committee, as well as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. Mr. Gorgos is also a member of the Capital Region Bankruptcy Bar Association and the Central New York Bankruptcy Bar Association. He currently serves as a member of the Albany Law School Government Law Center Advisory Board. He has been selected for numerous community leadership roles including those with Broome Leadership Institute, Community Hunger Outreach and the United Way. Mr. Gorgos was also selected by the US Youth Soccer Association as East Coast Region 1 Boys Coach of the Year for 2005 and was one of four finalists for National Boys Coach of the Year in 2005.
