Trust & Estates, Real Estate, and Litigation Associate Attorney

Coughlin & Gerhart, LLP is seeking a full-time Pennsylvania admitted Associate Attorney, with ties to Northeastern Pennsylvania and at least 1-5 years of experience in Trusts & Estates, Real Estate (residential or commercial) and/or a General Litigation Practice to work in its Montrose, Pennsylvania office. This Associate would share time in our Montrose, Pennsylvania and Binghamton offices.  However, the position will be primarily based out of the Firm’s Montrose, Pennsylvania office which is about a 50 minute commute from the Scranton metropolitan area.

The Associate Attorney will work under the mentorship of one of the Firm’s partners who will provide guidance and training where necessary.  The ideal applicant has a strong work ethic with a drive succeed in private practice.  The Firm’s practice out of the Montrose office is primarily focused on Trust & Estates, Real Estate, Oil & Gas, and General Litigation.  The ideal candidate would also be admitted to practice in New York State but such admission is not necessary.

Trusts & Estates responsibilities:

  • Represent the firm’s client in estate planning process.
  • Draft various estate planning and trust administration documents.
  • Assist clients with trust funding and advise accordingly.
  • Prepare and assemble Pennsylvania Inheritance Tax returns.
  • Understanding of the Orphan’s Court process including court filings.
  • Manage trust and probate administration case matter and meet deadlines.
  • Analytical and research skills.
  • Provides sound judgment and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Real Estate responsibilities:

  • Represent the firm’s client in purchases and sales of properties.
  • Review real estate documentation and advice clients accordingly.
  • Interpret laws, rulings and regulations for real estate transactions.
  • Draft various real estate documents during the transaction process.
  • Title insurance underwriting, curative and claims.
  • Analytical and research skills.
  • Provides sound judgment and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
