Drivers have to ensure they’re operating their vehicles in a safe manner each time they’re behind the wheel. This involves having to consider many factors, including taking steps to avoid unsafe driving behaviors.
There are three driving behaviors that are particularly dangerous and should always be avoided. They are driving while fatigued, distracted or impaired.
Why are these behaviors dangerous?
All three of those driving behaviors can slow down a driver’s reaction time and make it impossible for them to react to hazards on the road in a suitable manner. Many people think that driving while they’re drowsy, multitasking or after having a few drinks isn’t a big deal because they have ample experience driving. The issue is that the effects of these driving behaviors don’t depend on how long a driver has had their license.
Another issue with these behaviors while driving is that they can lead to microsleeps. This occurs when the driver dozes off for a few seconds or longer. During those sleeps, the vehicle is left without proper control, which can occur over a considerable distance. In only five seconds, a person who’s driving at 55 miles per hour will go 100 yards, which is the distance of an entire football field.
One of the primary dangers of these actions is that they can lead to car crashes that may cause serious injuries. Victims may opt to seek compensation for the financial damages they’re dealing with. The time to do this is limited so working with someone familiar with these matters is often beneficial.
