A man has sadly lost his life in a wrong-way motor vehicle collision in New York. Meanwhile, another person was seriously injured in the two-car collision. Sometimes, wrong-way car accidents happen due to a driver’s negligence, which is grounds for civil litigation.

The recent accident took place at about 7:30 p.m. on a recent Friday. According to police, two motor vehicles were driving along a highway on Long Island before colliding. A man, 44, who was driving one of the motor vehicles ended up passing away in the collision.

The driver of the second motor vehicle, 38, survived the crash but suffered serious injuries. He was quickly transported to a medical center for treatment. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the car wreck.

In their investigation, New York police may determine that the injured driver caused the car crash due to careless driving. In this situation, the surviving loved ones of the man who died in the crash may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the injured driver, seeking damages. Meanwhile, if the deceased driver is found to have caused the crash, then the injured driver may file a personal injury claim against the deceased driver’s estate. The personal injury lawsuit could also include anyone else with an ownership interest in the motor vehicle that the deceased driver was operating at the time of the crash. A successfully fought civil suit following a car crash may result in a damage award to cover hospital costs, burial expenses and other losses resulting from these types of car accidents.
