Car accidents: Cross-over crash kills motorcyclist

On Behalf of | Jun 18, 2019 | Car Accidents

An accident investigation team along with fire departments, emergency services and the sheriff’s office were at the scene of a crash involving two cars and a motorcycle. As in many other New York car accidents that involve motorcycles, it was the biker who lost his life while the occupants of the cars did not suffer serious injuries. Authorities say the crash happened in the late afternoon of a recent Sunday.

A report by the sheriff’s office indicates that an eastbound vehicle on State Route 79 crossed the center line and traveled into the lane of oncoming traffic. It struck a westbound car after hitting a motorcycle. The motorcycle rider was a 77-year-old Ithaca man.

The two drivers of the cars and a passenger in the westbound vehicle suffered injuries that were reported to be non-life threatening, and they were taken to a hospital. Authorities said the injuries suffered by the motorcyclist were severe. He was rushed to a medical facility but succumbed to his injuries later on the same day. The crash investigation was ongoing.

When loved ones die in car accidents, the surviving family members might have questions about their legal options to recover damages. An experienced personal injury can explain how financial relief could be obtained through the New York civil justice system. If there is evidence to prove fault on the part of another party, there would likely be grounds to file a wrongful death lawsuit. This is a complicated field of the law, but the support and guidance of legal counsel can simplify the legal proceedings in pursuit of economic and noneconomic damage recovery.
