Car accidents: Cross-over crash kills 1, injures 2 — 1 critical

On Behalf of | Dec 24, 2018 | Car Accidents

In most cities nationwide, including New York, traveling risks increase during the holidays, not only because of hazardous weather but also because of the increased number of vehicles on the highways. Sadly, car accidents often have catastrophic consequences, and in many cases, families lose loved ones. State Police announced such a tragedy that occurred on a recent Saturday morning.

Troopers reported that the accident occurred in Columbus at approximately 1:30 a.m. A collision reconstruction unit of the New York State Police launched an investigation, and a preliminary report indicates that a 27-year-old driver crossed over the centerline, putting his vehicle directly in the path of oncoming traffic. That driver died at the crash scene, and investigators are working on finding the reason for the driver crossing over.

Further reports by state police indicate the passenger in the deceased driver’s car was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. A 46-year-old woman in the other vehicle was airlifted to a medical facility, and although she suffered severe injuries, she is expected to survive. There were no reports about other injuries.

Spending the holidays in a hospital is unimaginable, especially when the medical bills are mounting and the inability to return to work causes lost wages. The New York judicial system allows victims of car accidents that were caused by the negligence of others to pursue financial relief. If that driver died in the crash, his or her estate can be named as the defendant. An experienced personal injury attorney can provide the necessary support and guidance to recover damages. Documented claims can include not only financial losses but also emotional damages like pain and suffering.
