Any fatal crash is traumatic for the surviving family of the deceased victims. However, car accidents that claim the lives of parents with young children always seem particularly sad. One such an incident caused the death of a New York woman, and it left her 6-year-old son in a critical condition.

Authorities report that the 33-year-old mother and her son were at a Brooklyn bus stop when a car crashed into them. Although the investigation is still ongoing, a preliminary accident report indicates that this tragedy involved two vehicles. Reportedly, a sedan was struck by an SUV as it was making a left turn. The impact caused the car to jump the curb and crash into the bus stop.

Police say the lights were green for both vehicles when they collided. They say the incident occurred at approximately 9 p.m. on a recent Tuesday. The impact killed the mother, and the child was critically injured and rushed to a hospital.

Whenever lives are lost in car accidents, the surviving family members may seek financial relief through the civil justice system of New York. However, they will have to establish negligence before the court can adjudicate documented claims. An experienced wrongful death attorney can provide the necessary assistance throughout the legal process.

A new York lawyer can also help with the documentation of the claims after car accidents, which would typically include the expenses related to end-of-life arrangements and lost income. However, non-economic damages, such as pain and suffering and lost parental guidance and love from a parent, can be claimed on behalf of a surviving child. Also, loss of companionship can be included in the claim by a surviving spouse.
