Child in New York suffers brain injury during holiday party

On Behalf of | Jul 12, 2017 | Brain Injury

Many families in New York and throughout the nation recently gathered with loved ones and friends to celebrate the Independence Day holiday. Some attended community affairs where fireworks displays were offered in public places. Others celebrated with barbecues, games and socializing closer to home. Two parents’ lives were forever changed, however, when their 7-year-old son suffered a brain injury during their holiday party.

There were reportedly hundreds of people at the gathering that included a disc jockey, various food vending sites and a lot of music and dancing. Some say there were cars everywhere in the streets as the community drew together to celebrate. At some point during the evening, the boy’s mother and father realized they had not seen him for a while.

Someone shouted that there was a child underneath a car, and it soon became apparent the boy had been hit by a car. The driver of the car has not yet been located. The boy, whose face and head were terribly swollen following the accident, was transported to a nearby hospital where he remains in a medically induced coma.

He suffered a traumatic brain injury, and his parents have been keeping vigil by his side since he was admitted to the New York hospital. The child has four siblings and many people have contributed to their care while the parents stay close to their injured son. In any type of car accident where injury occurs due to someone’s reckless or negligent behavior, a recovering victim (or parent of a minor age victim) may pursue justice by filing a personal injury claim against the party or parties believed responsible.
