Many New York parents hesitate to allow their teenage children to obtain drivers' licenses. Reasons vary, but most worry their children will get into car accidents and suffer injuries or worse. Highways are full of minors who drive, however, and sorrow is often intensified when motor vehicle collisions result in their harm.
One group of teens was recently traveling together when the nightmare of many parents came true. The person who was driving somehow lost control of steering, sending the car careening off the road. The vehicle, with at least two passengers, struck a nearby tree and life as it had been changed forever for those involved.
The driver of the car and one of the passengers were taken to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment of their injuries. The 17-year-old who was riding in the front seat when the car hit the tree was also taken to a hospital but did not survive. Full details regarding the crash were not immediately known, which is probably why local law enforcement officers requested anyone with pertinent information to call and report what they know.
Motorists deemed responsible for New York car accidents can be held legally accountable for negligence in court. If those injured are minors, parents or legal guardians may file claims on their behalves. Just as news of such accidents comes as a shock to most families, the unexpected medical expenses and other costs associated with these incidents can also take grieving families aback. Those wanting to seek justice can turn to experienced personal injury attorneys for assistance.
