Police pursuits often lead to car accidents in New York

On Behalf of | Nov 17, 2016 | Car Accidents

New York roadways are often highly congested with traffic. Many times, typical travel flow becomes entangled with official police work. Police pursuits often lead to car accidents, such as a recent incident that did not end well.

An accident occurred on a recent Wednesday night that reportedly left debris strewn across one resident’s front yard. At approximately 8:15 p.m., police say they saw a car speed past their unmarked patrol vehicle. Things quickly became intense when the officers pursued the vehicle.

A little further down the road, the car allegedly came to a stop. However, when police exited their car and approached the driver of the other car, he apparently accelerated and fled the scene. Moments later, the 45-year-old driver of the fleeing car is said to have collided with another vehicle on the road.

The driver of the car that was struck suffered a broken jaw, and both vehicles reportedly sustained severe damage. When New York car accidents result in injuries, those afflicted may seek restitution against anyone deemed negligent. Serious injuries often require extensive medical care to attain full recovery, which can be very expensive and often leaves victims to face substantial financial debts. A personal injury attorney can guide a recovering victim through the process of filing a claim in the hope of obtaining compensation for damages that can help offset expenses related to an accident. If needed, the help of third party testimony can also be enlisted to substantiate severity of injury, as well as probable cause.
