Omega-3 fatty acids may help those with brain injury

Treating injuries to the brain in New York and other parts of the United States remains a challenge clinically. So far, clinical studies have not been able to pinpoint a treatment strategy that is effective when the aspects of neuroregeneration, neuroprotection and neuroinflammation need to be controlled. However, research has revealed that omega-3 fatty acids may be beneficial for traumatic brain injury.

According to research, early doses of these fatty acids may improve outcomes for those suffering from brain injury. Researchers looked at three case studies involving a drowning accident, a mining accident and a vehicle accident that led to injuries to the brain. In each case, the patient who had suffered life-threatening injuries to the brain experienced the recovery of his or her brain health through the assistance of the fatty acids.

It appears that injured brains must be saturated with large doses of the fatty acids for them to have the chance to heal. Omega-3 fatty acids are not considered a drug, and every situation involving injuries to the brain is different. However, there does not appear to be any downside to giving high amounts of these fatty acids to a patient who has suffered a serious injury to the brain.

Brain injuries stemming from an accident can have a drastic effect on a person's life in New York. If the accident was the fault of another party who was negligent, this other party may be held liable for the injury in civil court. A successful outcome in a personal injury claim filed by the brain injury victim may lead to a monetary damage award, which may help with covering medical costs and other expenses stemming from the accident.
