Car accidents involving scooters may lead to injuries

An injury accident recently took place between a car and motor scooter in New York. The accident took place during the early morning hours on a Saturday. Police said the car struck the scooter, which was being driven by a man, 21. If these types of car accidents occur due to the negligence of one driver, that driver may be held liable through the civil court system.

The crash occurred at about 3:45 a.m. Following the wreck, police said they found the man lying in the road. He reportedly had severe trauma to his body.

The motor scooter driver was traveling east on an avenue at the time of the crash. Police said all of a sudden, an Acura MDX that was going west on the same avenue breached the road’s middle line and struck the scooter driver. The victim was transported to the hospital, where his condition was listed as critical. The Acura driver, 38, suffered no injuries in the collision and was placed in custody with charges pending.

In addition to potentially facing criminal charges in connection with the accident, the Acura driver may face further legal trouble in the form of a personal injury liability claim. The injured scooter driver has the right to file such a claim against the Acura driver, seeking damages. If the car driver ends up being charged and then convicted on these charges in New York, proof of the convictions may be presented in a related civil court proceeding in an attempt to establish liability in the car accident. Awarded damages may help to cover medical costs and other losses tied to these types of car accidents.
