Medical negligence in New York can unfortunately cause a person to suffer severe injuries or even lose his or her life. One woman in another state recently said medical malpractice on the part of three doctors caused her father’s death. She has therefore filed a suit against a hospital and the three doctors.
The woman said her father was placed in the hospital since he was suffering from respiratory distress. While at the hospital, he ended up developing pressure ulcers. The ulcers reportedly became infected and caused sepsis syndrome.
According to the suit, the hospital and three doctors did not properly monitor the man’s skin condition. They also are accused of not using air mattresses to prevent the formation of ulcers and not keeping the man’s skin dry and clean. The woman said the man ended up dying as a result.
In her lawsuit alleging medical malpractice, the woman is seeking more than $50,000 in damages. If medical professionals in New York do not exercise a reasonable degree of care in treating patients and the patients end up dying, the patients’ surviving loved ones have the right to file lawsuits for compensatory damages. They might also seek punitive damages, which may be awarded in cases of egregious fault. Liability needs to be established in a manner that pleases the civil court hearing the case before monetary damages will be awarded. Financial restitution in a successfully fought case may help to cover burial costs, the loss of support and other expenses tied to the document incident of medical malpractice.
