New York car accidents may lead to critical injuries, death

On Behalf of | Dec 10, 2015 | Car Accidents

One man lost his life in a recent New York car accident, while another person was seriously injured. The accident happened on a Sunday night. When individuals die or suffer injuries in car accidents caused by the carelessness of others, this is grounds for litigation in the state’s civil court system.

Police reported that a silver vehicle was driving on Laurel Hill Boulevard at 49th Street under the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. All of a sudden, the driver of the car, 30, lost control of the vehicle. Witnesses said they then heard a huge crash. The vehicle had spun out of control before colliding with a median, and those inside the vehicle were pinned there.

Bystanders rushed to the vehicle to help those inside. When they arrived at the scene, they saw two men who were unconscious and dialed 911. Both men were transported to the hospital, but the driver died there. Authorities said the other man, a passenger in the vehicle, was in critical condition. Police continued to investigate the collision.

The male passenger who suffered critical injuries in the wreck has the right to file a personal injury claim in this case. He can seek the reimbursement of monetary damages tied to these types of car accidents, such as medical bills or the loss of wages due to being unable to work for a period of time. Although the driver who is deemed to have caused the wreck passed away in the crash, the driver’s estate may be sued in New York; also, a lawsuit may still be filed against any separate owner of the automobile he was driving at the time of the accident.
