Multiple people suffered injuries in a recent New York crash involving five vehicles. At least one of the victims in this accident was critically injured. These types of car accidents may happen if one motorist on the road is driving carelessly, in which case he or she may legally be held accountable.
The five-vehicle accident took place at around 5 p.m. on a Sunday. Police said two vehicles were on one side of a thruway after having gotten into a minor crash. All of a sudden, a car that a 39-year-old woman was driving did not stop quickly enough as traffic began to slow down nearby. This driver rear-ended one vehicle, which then set off a chain reaction in which five total vehicles were involved in subsequent, rear-end collisions.
The individual who reportedly caused the accident suffered chest and head injuries and was taken to the hospital. The two passengers in her car, ages 27 and 28, suffered back injuries and injuries to the head, respectively. In addition, the drivers of two of other vehicles suffered spinal injuries and leg pain, respectively. Two passengers in one vehicle complained about having back pain, and the drivers of the last two vehicles involved in the collision apparently escaped the accident unscathed.
The woman believed to have caused the New York accident may face personal injury claims filed by the injured passengers in her car as well as the injured drivers and passengers from the other cars involved in the car accident. The victims in their claims have the right to pursue the reimbursement of monetary damages stemming from these types of car accidents, which — if achieved — may help to cover their hospital bills and even the loss of wages. Liability needs to be established in a manner that pleases the court before claims for damages will be determined.
