Car accidents may lead to death in New York

On Behalf of | Oct 22, 2015 | Car Accidents

Two people died in a vehicle crash that took place in New York recently. The crash occurred following a traffic stop early in the morning on a Tuesday. These types of car accidents can easily happen if a driver is negligent behind the wheel.

Police said at about 3 a.m., they stopped a woman on the suspicion of driving while intoxicated as well as driving a vehicle that had been stolen. The woman, however, did not comply with the commands of the police officer. She got back into her car and sped off.

The woman then reportedly began to drive west in the lanes going east. She struck a car between two exits, and her car caught fire. Both drivers died at the crash scene. It was unclear exactly how long the car was going the wrong way on the parkway. The highway was shut down for seven hours following the fatal accident.

The estate of the woman who was reportedly driving the wrong way on the parkway may face claims for financial liability for the other driver’s death. In addition, the surviving loved ones of the other driver who died may file a wrongful death claim against any separate owner of the car that the alleged wrong-way driver was operating at the time of the accident. If liability is established before a New York civil court based upon a showing of negligence, claims for monetary damages related to these types of car accidents will be decided. Financial restitution in a successful case may help to cover the deceased victim’s burial expenses as well as address pain and suffering along with emotional distress caused by the accident.
