Car accidents involving buses may lead to serious injuries

On Behalf of | Oct 1, 2015 | Car Accidents

An injury accident involving a bus and car recently took place in New York. These types of car accidents can easily take place if one driver fails to pay attention to the road, such as driving while distracted, or driving too quickly for road conditions. The recent New York accident led to one injury.

The accident between the bus and the car occurred shortly before 3:50 p.m. The bus was carrying special needs adults at the time of the collision. One witness said the impact of the crash actually caused the bus to rock, and it appeared as though the bus would tip over.

People who saw the crash rushed to the individual who was driving the car, as this person became trapped in it and was bloodied. After being freed from the vehicle, he was transported to the hospital, where his condition was considered critical. Ten people riding in the bus ended up suffering minor injuries.

A police investigation might reveal which party was responsible for the motor vehicle collision. If the bus driver is found to have caused the crash, the driver of the car may choose to file a personal injury claim against the bus driver and even his or her employer, seeking damages that — if awarded — may help to cover any expenses tied to the accident. These costs might include medical costs as well as lost wages. A preponderance of the evidence is required to establish liability in these types of car accidents in New York.
