Teen suffers brain injury in New York accident

On Behalf of | Jun 24, 2015 | Brain Injury

One teenager recently suffered injury to his brain in a vehicle accident in New York. The brain injury accident occurred on a Monday night. It took place at about 10:20 p.m.

Police said the teenager was in a car’s back seat on his way back from an automobile show with friends. All of a sudden, the vehicle lost control. It then hit the road’s center median before crossing over to the road’s right shoulder.

The vehicle finally hit a guardrail. The teenager, 17, suffered injury to his brain as a result of the vehicle crash and was taken to the hospital via helicopter. The driver of the vehicle, 21, and a front seat passenger also suffered injuries and received treatment at a hospital before being released. According to police, the driver was speeding and may have actually been racing other motorists from the vehicle show. Authorities continued to investigate the collision.

A brain injury can easily happen as a result of a vehicle crash or another type of accident in New York, such as a slip-and-fall accident on another person’s property. If the accident was another person’s fault — for instance, another driver on the road was negligent or a property owner failed to keep up the property — the injury victim may choose to file a liability suit against this other party. Liability has to be established by competent proof of negligence in order for monetary damage claims to be decided. A monetary award may help the victim to cover medical treatment costs and other expenses associated with the brain injury-causing accident.
