As you can gather from news posts on this website, in December our law firm was forced to leave its downtown Binghamton office location as a result of a fire next door to our office building. Fortunately our firm had a disaster recovery plan in place and in just 8 short days, we began to move our 26,000 sq foot operation into temporary office space at the historic Clocktower Building at the former IBM campus in neighboring Endicott, New York.

We had an outpouring of support and assistance from local businesses and our local Bar Association colleagues and we remain grateful for that, as well as for the patience of our loyal clients.

I'm hopeful that you never have to relocate your business as a result of a disaster. I cannot stress enough the importance of having a detailed disaster recovery plan in place and the necessity of keeping that up to date. If you do find yourselves in that situation, consider calling your legal counsel early in the process (your insurance agent is your first call). You will undoubtedly be faced with numerous new contracts, leases, and policies to review as well as personnel decisions, including issues such as the risks and rewards of having employees work from home.
