Professional experience
Mr. Thompson joined Coughlin & Gerhart, L.L.P. in 1975 and is a Partner in the firm.  He is a member of the firm's Real Estate, Trusts & Estates, and Business & Banking Practice Groups. His practice experience has extended into all areas of real estate, with a recent emphasis into the oil and gas development and leasing area. His business practice has focused upon small business enterprises, sales, purchases of businesses and certain regulated industries, mostly in the telecommunications field.  Mr. Thompson also assists clients regularly in the areas of estate planning and administration, business succession planning, and elder law issues.

Other
Mr. Thompson has been, and continues to be, an involved member of the Broome County Bar Association (BCBA), Tioga County Bar Association (TCBA), New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) and American Bar Association (ABA).  He is a past President of the Broome County Bar Association, a long-time member its Real Property Committee, and is currently serving on the Oil & Gas Special Committee. During his career, Mr. Thompson has also been very active with the New York State Bar Association, including service as a Delegate to the New York State Bar Association’s House of Delegates, a representative of the 6th Judicial District on the Executive Committee of the Real Property Section of the NYSBA, and Chairperson of the New York State Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section.

Mr. Thompson is native of Binghamton and a devoted supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Binghamton, having served as its President, and continuing to serve on both its Board of Directors and as Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Boys and Girls Club of Binghamton Foundation. He is also currently serving as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Binghamton University Athletics Council and also serves on its Mentoring Committee. He is the founder and a long-time supporter and volunteer of the West Side Youth Association, Inc., and a member of the Troop Committee of Boy Scout Troop 110 in Johnson City, N.Y.
